Skin physiology background
At night, the skin’s physiology changes significantly: transepidermal water loss (TEWL) increases, while blood circulation and enzymatic activity also increase. During this phase, the skin barrier is particularly challenged, but also particularly receptive to repairing active ingredients.
A high-performance night care mask must therefore fulfil several functions: intensive hydration, strengthening of the lipid matrix (especially ceramides and essential fatty acids), antioxidant protection and soothing of irritations. This formulation addresses precisely these mechanisms and supports the restoration of epidermal homeostasis overnight.
Effect of the main active ingredients
Multifunctional moisturising and repairing active ingredients are at the heart of the night care mask. Panthenol (D-panthenol) soothes the skin, supports the regeneration of the skin barrier and improves elasticity. Maltooligosyl glucoside and hydrogenated starch hydrolysate ensure long-lasting, biomimetic moisture retention.
A complex ceramide system (including ceramide NP, AP, EOP and cholesterol) specifically strengthens the lamellar lipid structure of the stratum corneum and supports barrier repair. This is complemented by hyaluronic acid in different molecular weights, which builds up both superficial and deeper moisture reserves.
Effect of plant/functional extracts
The formulation is based on a sophisticated phyto concept. Centella asiatica extract is known for its soothing, barrier-strengthening properties and supports skin regeneration. The plant complex of arnica, cupressus, barley and polygonatum addresses sensitive, stressed skin conditions and helps to reduce redness.
Aloe vera powder provides additional polysaccharide-based moisture and has a balancing effect. This combination makes the night care mask particularly interesting for sensitive, mature or environmentally stressed skin types.
Effect of the cosactive ingredient
A key distinguishing feature is the use of innovative cosactive raw materials. Cosactive Phytar (phytic acid-based) acts as a multifunctional antioxidant and chelating agent, supports product stability and contributes to the skin’s protective function.
This is complemented by Cosactive Toco Power, a powerful tocopherol system for lipid phase stabilisation and protection against oxidative stress. Cosactive MF0506 serves as a multifunctional moisturising and preservative booster, while Cosactive Hyaluron Gel Complete provides a broad spectrum of hyaluronic acid for immediate and lasting hydration. Texture & application
The night care mask has a rich, creamy O/W texture with high viscosity, yet is easy to apply and absorbs quickly. High-quality plant oils such as kahai, jojoba and buah merah oil, as well as mango and shea butter, leave the skin feeling supple without weighing it down.
Application: Apply generously to the face, neck and décolleté in the evening after cleansing. Do not rinse off. Ideal as intensive care 2–3 times a week or as daily night care for very dry skin.
Laboratory production
The product is manufactured using the classic hot-hot process. The water and oil phases are heated separately to approx. 80 °C and emulsified under high shear. After adding the gel and active ingredient phases, the emulsion is cooled in a controlled manner and homogenised again at approx. 30 °C. This process ensures a stable, finely dispersed emulsion with reproducible quality.
Product properties & stability
The finished night care mask has a viscosity of approx. 79,000 mPa·s and a skin-physiological pH value of ~5.5. Stability tests show very good physical stability at 6 °C and 40 °C over several weeks, with only slight colour changes during long-term storage under heat – typical for plant-based, antioxidant-active systems. The formulation is therefore ideally suited for industrial scale production.
