Cosactive Tocas is an optimised blend of vitamin E and a vitamin C ester. Vitamin E is well known and is used practically everywhere as a “standard vitamin”.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a normal component of human skin, found in the dermis and epidermis. It is one of the most commonly used antioxidants to protect the skin. In addition, vitamin C is important in protecting the skin from UV-induced free radical damage associated with skin ageing.
Ageing. Unfortunately, pure vitamin C in cosmetic formulations is not stable and oxidises easily when exposed to air or light.
Ascorbyl isostearate is an oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C and has improved solubility, penetrates the skin and is converted to ascorbic acid.
Because of this process, its effectiveness is better than that of pure ascorbic acid. It is resistant to discolouration and degradation, but retains all the biological activity of ascorbic acid.
Processing
Ideally, it is added with the active ingredient phase below 40°C, but can also be heated to 80°C for a short time (max. 30 minutes).
