Why do W/O emulsions require special preservation aid systems?
W/O emulsions are classic emulsions in which each individual water droplet must be stabilised by W/O emulsifiers. Preservatives that act at the interface are unsuitable because they can destabilise the emulsion. Therefore, special lipophilic or multifunctional systems are needed to ensure microbial protection without compromising stability.
